'LPK' songs : A subtle, sweet and pleasing experience with a flavour of awesome melody

Recently listened to the songs of upcoming film 'Lagna Pahave Karun' starring Umesh Kamat and Mukta Barve and directed & Music by Ajay Naik. After listening to the music, I felt like the music director and his team deserves an applause. So, I decided to write a song-by-song review from a listener and from an Amateur artist point of view [saying this because I play Tabla ;) ].

Among the glimpses of all the songs published on Soundcloud, the glimpse of 'Reshami Bandhane' appealed to me the most. Along with this song, I was also curious to listen the full version of another song sung by Shankar Mahadevan ('Majhya Mana'). Finally a few days back, all the songs were released on dhingana.com and after listening to the full version of all of them, I realised not only these two but also rest of the songs are really fantastic or rather more than the expectation.

Starting with my favourite song in the glimpse version, 'Reshami Bandhane', I must say that it's a typical Bela Shende song. Lovely lyrics, tune with a subtle pace, perfect arrangement and melodious Bela.... In all, a perfect combination !! Thumbs up for this one. I am hooked to this one.

Then the next comes my favourite in the full version, viz. 'Tu Shwas Saare (Male Version)'. I felt this song was made for only and only Kunal Ganjawala. Just a perfect voice for this song !! Marathi audience may sneer at his slightly non-Maharashtrian accent in it, but in my opinion, that's what makes this song stand out and convey the exact feelings in the song to the listeners. I am hooked to this one as well.

Coming back to the previously mentioned composition 'Majhya Mana' voiced by Shankar Mahadevan, with due respect to him, I would like to say that Shankar Ji is not at his best in this one. One may feel slightly disappointed as it is not one of the best of Shankar Mahadevan. Still, on any day, he is a level above most of the contemporary singers. So, given all the slight disappointment, we can still enjoy the song.

Next in the line is 'Tu Shwas Sare (Female Version)' by Bela Shende. Again, the same story as 'Reshami Bandhane'. Lyrics, music are really good and Bela doesn't disappoint you as usual.

Now something to say about the song 'Jaanata Ajaanata (Male Version)'. The tune and the arrangement of this song is undoubtedly humming but despite all the positive aspects, unlike the Kunal Ganjawala in 'Tu Shwas Sare', the non-Marathi accent of Shaan is something that turned out to be unpleasant to my ears since the glimpse version. Besides this, another factor that bothered me was that the tune of this song appears to be forcibly fit for the lyrics of this song. Indeed the lyrics is good, but tune is somewhat a mismatch here ! But fortunately in spite of the minus points, this is another one to listen to.

The same thing goes with the Female Version of 'Jaanata Ajanata'. Though the singer's accent is not a problem here, I felt the it's a level above Bela's pitch and at some points during the playback, she is a bit uncomfortable, though it's just my view.

Now, moving to the last one, i.e. 'Kasa Ha Maza Saajana'. Akriti Kakkar deserves a grand applause for this one. A wedding song, though most of it in Hindi, but whatever the Marathi lyrics present in it, one won't find even the slightest of the non-Marathi accent while she sings it. Her voice and overall the song reminded me of Shreya Ghoshal singing 'Mann Ranaat Gela Ga' from the National Award Winning film 'Jogwa'. Besides the tune and the music arrangement is apt for the mood of the song. After listening to this song, I felt being a majority-hindi lyrics song, it should gain the popularity like the song 'Cham Cham Karta Hai' from 'Aga Bai Arechchha' which was also a Hindi song in a Marathi movie.

Overall, although not very much experimentation done, all the songs are pleasant to the ears and likely to stay in the mind for a fairly long time because of the 'these-days-rare' factor 'MELODY' presented by Ajay Naik. Now, I am very excited to see these on-screen featuring the Umesh Kamat-Mukta Barve pair. That would be a treat to the ears and to the eyes as well. The movie is releasing on 4th October, 2013 in the theatres nearest to you. It has already been premiered in Singapore. From the two teasers that have been uploaded till date and the positive feedback from Singapore audience, it seems it's going to be a rocking movie. Now it's time to do a fair amount of publicity and marketing for LPK. All the best to the Director and the Music Director Ajay Naik and his entire team. Keep the good work up !!

P.S. : I don't know how the critics give the overall 'Star Ratings' to the movies but after listening to the LPK's music, the first figure that comes in my mind is 3.5/5.
